About Graham Bennett Architecture & Design

Graham Bennett Architecture & Design is run by Graham Bennett, an Architectural Technician with over 40 years experience.

Graham trained under a Chartered Architect for 5 years, starting in 1979, obtaining both ONC & HNC Certificates in Building Studies (Architectural). The on-the-job training within the practice comprised all types of domestic architectural projects, including new houses, barn conversions, extensions, alterations & changes of use, and flats. The practice also specialised in designing & managing petrol station redevelopments, and Graham eventually designed & built several for clients such as BP, Shell, National Benzole & Texaco.

In 1984, soon after qualifying Graham moved to Marley Properties where he designed Payless DIY superstores (later to become Focus DIY).

This was followed by a period of diversification into property management, when he moved to the RAC as one of two senior Building Surveyors responsible for the maintenance of their extensive UK property portfolio, as well as designing any new build projects or alterations.

Expanding Experience

In the mid/late 1980s Graham again sought to expand his experience of the construction industry by moving into the fashion retail sector; this led him to become a project manager with the Coates Viyella Group in Soho London, which owned the Jaeger and Country Casuals brands and he worked on their new & existing stores throughout the UK, as well as Germany & Holland.

This was followed by a move, just around the corner, to the Burton Group. Here Graham worked on shopfitting projects throughout the UK & Eire for their various trading divisions, which at that time included Harvey Nichols, Debenhams, Burtons, Top Shop, Top Man, Dorothy Perkins, Principles, Champion Sport, and many others.

Quitting the 'Rat Race'

In December of 1988 Graham quit 'the rat race' and returned to his roots by setting up his own practice as an Architectural Technician. The following 30+ years have seen him engaged in all types of private and domestic building projects, including a long term love affair with highly energy efficient underground or 'Earth Sheltered' houses, and he has designed several of these for UK clients.

Graham's extensive commercial experience has seen his services retained by many well known retail operations in various design & project management capacities over the years; clients have included Estee Lauder, Clinique, MAC, Origins, Aveda, Elizabeth Arden, Christian Dior, Godiva Choclatier, Hamleys, Harrods, Dixons, Timberland, Co-Op, Irish Pub Company, Jury’s London Hotel and many others. Working for such companies has taken Graham all over the UK, Europe & the USA.

Graham concentrates on local domestic projects, bringing his years of experience to all his clients' projects - large or small.
